Heron Music first opened it’s doors in May 1981. Punk was still going strong, the Internet, or at least the World Wide Web we are used to seeing today, hadn’t been created, and Adam and the Ants were at number one in the charts (with Stand and Deliver).
Even though Britain was gripped by recession in 1981 this actually turned out to be a good thing for us – the only way really was up, business couldn’t sink any lower! We grew slowly but surely, and we’re still here after all these years.
Remembering those early days we have seen many changes. Staff have come and gone, opposition have opened and closed shops in the city, and quite a few of our best loved suppliers have closed their doors for the last time.
One thing that hasn’t changed is our love affair with the guitar. Today we focus a significant part of our business on the setup and on-site repair of guitars, but we still have a tremendous range of used guitars available, as well as a comprehensive stock of guitar and bass strings.
Need a set of Bronze wound acoustic bass strings? We’ve got your back! A Paul Allender or Michael Amott set of electric strings ready for your next gig? Not a problem. That tiny but essential bridge saddle screw for your favourite old guitar? Give us a try, we have a huge range of bits and pieces, and we will try our best to find those tricky little things most shops simply can’t be bothered with these days.
